Royal Ascot Enclosure Headpieces

Navy and Natural Chelsea Sweetheart HeadpieceWith the revised dress codes at Royal Ascot for headpieces and fascinators and with headpieces being very “in” at the moment there’s no time for a cup of coffee even …….. Either I am sewing my fascinators onto headpiece bases or am designing wonderful bespoke creations, which I just love. Just under two months to go until the Royal Ascot meeting and all the female racegoers are trying to finalise their outfits. This last week has been a week of shoes, handbags, dresses and of course the all important question “what to wear on my head”.

I love making small conservative headpieces just as much as I love making the massive wayout creations – and I also love all the colour matching that has to go on to get to the final decision. All the woman I deal with are genius and the most important thing is that between us we get it right.

So it’s back to the studio to meet my next two Royal Ascot clients who are due in for fittings, fashion, coffee and brownies this morning.

Royal Ascot Revises Dress Code On Fascinators for 2012

I woke up this morning to hear the jolly news on Radio 4 that fascinators are no longer permitted in the Royal Enclosure at The Royal Ascot meeting this year. I jumped out of bed and Googled the Ascot press release which says:-

Royal Enclosure – Ladies:

“Dresses and skirts should be of modest length defined as falling just above the
knee or longer.” This replaces the less clear instruction that miniskirts are
considered unsuitable.

“Hats should be worn; a headpiece which has a base of 4 inches (10cm) or more in
diameter is acceptable as an alternative to a hat.” This clarifies that fascinators are
no longer permitted in the Royal Enclosure.

So my thinking is that a base of 4 inches (10 cms) is easy to sew the fascinator onto – thus turning it into a headpiece.  I can do it so hope is not lost!

I can make discs of sinamay or straw and then sew the feathers onto the top and then sew the disc onto a headband which I cover in the same colour satin ribbon as the main body of the fascinator.

I then read on and it says:-

Grandstand Enclosure – Ladies:

“A hat, headpiece or fascinator should be worn at all times.” This replaces advice
that many ladies wear hats but this is not compulsory.

How exciting to know that it is compulsory for fascinators to be worn at all times in the Grandstand Enclosure – I’m looking forward to a busy Spring and Summer after all.

New Fascinator Styles Photographed

Ivory and Natural Chelsea Fascinator Sapphire Blue Mayfair Fascinator Burgundy Red Belgravia Fascinator

We had another fun photo shoot last week to capture all our fab new colours and styles.

Held at a friend’s amazing house in the middle of nowhere in West Dorset we photographed her gorgeous 18 year old daughter in all our many fascinators.

The day started off rather fraught with kittens jumping in and out of the fascinator boxes and lots of feathers in paws! I frantically placed all the 100 or so fascinators high up on the tables out of reach and piled the 10 or so boxes on top of each other! The kittens then thought it would be hilarious to play hide and seek ……

We were lent pretty camisoles by Kettlewell Colours so our model had lots of top changes but all were colour coordinated with the fascinators and we got some great photographs. We had lots of lipstick colours going on but the Mother/Daughter make-up team did stunningly.
